Core Project

Levels and Certifications

This project is aimed to create, maintain and update the certifications the International Judge Program provides for its members.

The project as a whole is in charge of ensuring internal coherence and a global vision of the levels and certifications system.

Then each level and certification is a sub-project led by a Testing Manager, who is the person responsible for the philosophy, definition, maintenance and update of each level/certification.

Led by Alfonso Bueno

Goals

-Creating an ecosystem of levels and certifications optimal for the IJP members, taking into consideration the current Organized Play structure, the member's needs and the community preferences.
-Ensuring each level/certification is meaningl, useful and fair.
-Ensuring all IJP members hosting a level/certification are up to the standard of such level/certification.

Project Lead

Hello! My name is Alfonso Bueno.
I was certified as a judge in 1998. I started certifying other judges in 2004 when I became L3. In 2012 I was in charge of the L2 redefinition to adapt it to the change to the Pre-Pro Tour Qualifiers (pPTQ) change in Organized Play. In 2014 I became L4 and in 2016, when the program changed to the so called “NNWO” I became GPHJ and Program Coordinator. With my main task being ‘judge levels’.
During all this time I had the opportunity to learn a lot, I made mistakes and I learned more and now I'm focused on giving back to present and future judges a part of what the judge program gave me all those years.

Hello! I’m a Magic Judge from Barcelona, Spain. I have been a judge since 2004, so this year will be my 20th anniversary! During these years I have had the opportunity to meet many people and make many friends, thanks to this lovely game. In my normal life, I work as a secondary school chemistry teacher (ages 14-18 years old). I have two children, a 2-year-old son and a 6-year-old daughter. So, as you can imagine, I’m quite entertained ;-). I enjoy playing board games with friends (when I have time!), reading books, and playing role games.

Hi, I am Monica Gonzalez, from Madrid, and I have been a judge for 7 years. During this time I have seen how this community has become part of my family, and that is something I wish for all judges. Traveling to events, meeting people from other cultures has not only been a fun experience, but it has helped me to develop myself. In my non-judging life I provide tools, training and support to people in my company who want to become citizen developers. Why? For the same reason as in the judge program. Because for me the most important thing is people, and I believe in an environment that provides tools and support so that everyone can grow and develop by helping each other.

Since I couldn’t become a Spiderman, web design is the closest thing to do. When you see me in a Tournament, you can always chat with me about all sorts of geeky things, play a few rounds of Backgammon, or bring forth your instrument for a jam session. Serves! I'm AJ, a Spanish judge living now in Germany. I started judging in 2011 and since 2014 when I became L3, I colaborate in International projects like the old GP Travel Guides project. I believe in the importance of sharing our knowledge with the community: with conferences, articles or exchanging points of view in an international tournament.
