New Project: MTGO Commander

Hello judges, we have a new project on the way and we need your help!

Intro & Project Details

I hope lots of judges enjoyed playing in the MOJO and continuing our collaboration with MTGO (thanks again to DayBreakGames for their support to the judge community!). Now it is my pleasure to lead a project around that collaboration.

As you probably already know if you like the format, MTGO allows Commander game play on their platform, and we want to give opportunities to judges to play it, since it’s the most popular Magic format.

We are looking for 20 IJP judges to help promote Commander, using Magic Online. This team will share ideas to animate Commander events either locally or internationally (up to you to decide) in Open Play, Leagues, fostering their community, should it be online or not and create some events and why not stream them! We expect those judges to have active play and organize activities around Commander.

Project Lead Introduction

Before giving you some more details, let me introduce myself: I am François Grossi, judging for more than 15 years and my favorite part in Magic is when I play Prereleases. Sometimes in Two Headed Giant with one of my two sons. And I like playing Commander with them as well!

More Project Details

The 20 IJP judges with a passion for Commander will be chosen from all around the globe. To animate this project you will be supplied with a special account: this special Magic Online account is loaded with all the cards! This account will be for the project members to use for up to a year to play Commander, and there is a small gift for you to keep in the process: MTGO / DayBreakGames is giving out 2 “Commander Workshop” per account used in the scope of this project. 1 for the judge using the account and 1 to offer to their community.

Selection Process

I am sure there are lots of judges who want to try it so I will spend some time explaining the guidelines for being selected.

Geographic Distribution

Currently we want all the IJP to be covered. For the launch of this project we will roughly follow these criteria:

  • We estimate the number of regions to be under 20. So we want at least one judge selected in each of those regions.
  • For the surplus accounts we will assign them according to the number of judges and also following the Commander activity in the regions.
  • Should we have not enough applicants in each region/country, we will regroup some regions using the same principle.

Candidate Criteria

Individually, to be selected, you will need to write about the following in your application:

  • Your motivation
  • Your ideas for this project,
  • Talk about your community.

Selection Goals & Review Process

The idea is to find the IJP Judges who are active members of Commander communities all around the world,  something interesting.

We also want to have a coherent distribution of judges getting the accounts compared to the Commander activity in those countries.

The selection will be reviewed by myself and the Program Leads, I will also probably need help to read through and do the selections, so if you are interested in being a part of the selection process, please reach out to me via email.

Activity Requirements

Regarding the activity required during the year, we will ask for a regular use (I was thinking at least twice a month) and online visibility, by any social media you feel necessary to show your activity. This may need to be more detailed but I expect the first weeks of this project will help us see a bit more what is expected. The specifics will need to be more defined among the project members in the first months.

Some comments or do you want to help perform the selection ? Feel free to reach out to me via my JudgeApps profile.

Happy to hear from you,

François
